One of the biggest events in the American boating calendar, the Miami Boat Show returns this week (Wednesday February 14 to Sunday February 18 2024).

With hundreds of boats on display, there’s far too much to see in one day at this sprawling, multi-site festival of boating brilliance.

For those who really want to make the most of the show, we’d always recommend getting a hotel for the Miami Boat Show and staying for a couple of days to give you plenty of time to see everything.

However, schedules are tight for everyone and that is not always feasible, so we’ve distilled down the exhibitor list into what we think are the must-see boats at Miami Boat Show 2024.

Best new boats at the 2024 Miami Boat Show

278-foot explorer Victorious

If you’re heading to the Miami Boat Show, take a look at Victorious, the biggest yacht at the show, which could be yours for a cool $129 million

Filling-up the dock at the Miami show’s Yacht Haven Grande superyacht display, Victorious is from the Turkish yard AKYacht, and currently owned by supercar-loving Turkish entrepreneur Vural Ak.

Ak, who owns the racetrack that stages the Turkish Formula 1 grand prix, bought the half-completed explorer-style superyacht in 2016 from New Zealand billionaire Graeme Hunt, and had it towed back to Istanbul for completion.

Azimut Magellano 30 Metri

As the saying goes: “Good things come for those who wait”. That’s certainly the case with Azimut’s new flagship of its explorer-style Magellano series, the Azimut Magellano 30 Metri. Splashed way back in January 2022 and originally scheduled to debut at that year’s Cannes boat show, it’s finally making its “world premiere” at Miami Boat Show.

As you’d expect, this new 97-footer still looks fresh and futuristic, courtesy of its striking exterior by the talented Dutch/American designer Ken Freivokh and interior by Vincenzo De Cotiis. And with those trademark wood slats on the cockpit sides, bluff, straight-up bow and towering bulwarks, the yacht is instantly recognizable as being from the Magellano stable.

Boston Whaler 365 Conquest

More than a few Boston Whaler devotees were a miffed when the much-loved 35-foot 345 Conquest walk-around fishing machine was quietly pensioned-off last year, after a nine-year run.

Thankfully their angst will be short-lived as the Miami Boat Show sees the unveiling of the 345’s successor, the all-new Boston Whaler 365 Conquest. Loosely based on the Florida builder’s larger, flagship 40-foot 405 Conquest, it features the same, deep-vee hull silhouette with big hull windows, same superstructure design cues and same hardtop with acres of glazing.

Chris-Craft 27 Launch

Way back in 1874, a 13-year-old called Christopher Columbus Smith, knocked together his first wooden skiff in a shed in rural Algonac, Michigan. Chris-Craft was born.

To mark this auspicious milestone, the now Sarasota, Florida-based builder, part of the Winnebago Industries powerhouse, has come up with a 150th Anniversary version of its classic Chris-Craft 27 Launch bowrider that it’s unveiling at Miami International Boat Show. Expect champagne corks to pop.

Formula 457 Center Console Sport

With triple 600-hp V12 outboards, the new Formula 457 Center Console Sport has a need for speed says Howard Walker

Formula execs teased us at last year’s Fort Lauderdale boat show with slick renderings of the upcoming 45-foot Formula 457 Center Console Sport go-fast boat. The promise? The real deal would debut at Miami Boat Show 2024.

They kept their promise. On display at the show will be the new big brother to the popular 387 Center Console Sport, and the second biggest boat in the Formula line-up behind the 500 Super Sport Crossover flagship.

Pursuit Boats has been cranking out family-friendly dual-console bow-riders since the dawn of time. Well at least since the mid-1970s. Making its debut at Miami Boat Show, the new Pursuit DC 306 is the result of 47 years of continuous evolution.

Focusing on three “Fs” – family, fun and fishing – this good-looking 31-footer is distinguished by its extra-tall, wrap-around windshield to give lots of protection from the elements, and sun-shading hardtop.

Tiara Yachts' new Tiara EX 54 debuts at 2024 Miami Boat Show

The massive 278-foot explorer Victorious will be the star at this year's Miami Boat Show 2024

One of the yacht’s highlights is its so-called Dual Mode, semi-planing hull design that’s said to help reduce fuel consumption by up to 15 per cent compared to a traditional double-chine hull.

That and more than 750 square feet of glass which, according to Azimut, gives anyone inside a view of both the sea and sky from pretty much every place on the yacht. Azimut also offers an eco-friendly Hotel Mode package with the boat, featuring a bank of 100kWh batteries that allow the big Azimut to bob at anchor, generator-free, for four hours during the day and eight at night.

The Magellano 30M being shown in Miami is actually the first to land in the U.S. and is currently up for sale. Named “Fifth Season” – we’re thinking the owner is in the entertainment biz – it’s said to have over $3 million in options, including the highly-desirable MAN 1900 diesels, which give a top speed of over 20 knots. Yours for $12.75 million.

“Honey, I Shrunk the Boat” could make the perfect catchphrase for prolific U.S. builder Tiara Yachts’ brand new Tiara EX 54, that’s making its debut at MIBS 2024.

The design process looked pretty simple. Take your recently-launched 60-foot EX 60, download a few snaps of it on your computer screen, and shrink to 75 per cent. Hey Presto, you have a look-alike, spookily similar, 54-foot version.

Tiara’s argument could be that there’s no reason to mess with success. The 60 is one cool-looking boat with a myriad of great features, most of which have been carried over to the new 54. Features like the twin fold-down, cockpit-expanding terraces with clever integrated doors, a side door by the helm to aid docking, sliding glass windows with a drop-down section to open-up the salon, and a big, bow entertaining area.

Pursuit's new-for-Miami Pursuit DC 306 perfects the dual-console concept

While the downsizing has reduced the size of the cockpit, Tiara has compensated by offering a choice of three innovative layouts to cater for the different ways buyers use their boats.

So for the kick-back-and-chill crowd who like to entertain, there’s the “lounge module” with a U-shaped sofa opposite the aft-facing fixed sofa. With an expanding table in the middle, it’s a perfect place for dinner under the stars.

For fishy folks, there’s the “adventure module” with the sofa replaced by open space and a row of rod holders and cabinets for hooks and lines. Then there’s the “glass module” with a near full-beam glass panel to watch the kids diving off the hydraulic swim platform.

Below decks there are still three cabins, though the amidship, full-beam master is a tad smaller, and the guest cabin now has bunk beds instead of twins.

Power-wise, the 54 trades the 60’s twin Volvo IPS 1050s, or optional 1350s, for a pair of Volvo IPS 950s good for a 34-knot top speed.

And that’s only part of the story. The yacht started life in Chile at Marco Yachts where it was launched as Gin Tonic II. When the original owner ran out of cash, Hunt bought the unfinished project and had it towed to New Zealand. As Mr. Ak likes to say: “The yacht traveled half way around the world without running its engines”.

Finally completed in 2021, with a sumptuous interior by Britain’s H2 Yacht Design, she has space for 24 guests across 12 staterooms. Mod cons include a massive wellness center with a beauty salon and steam room, a wine cellar, cinema, two wood-burning fireplaces, and expansive playroom for the kiddies. Her small armada of tenders includes a 41-ft custom aluminum catamaran that sits high on the huge back deck, and a 38-foot go-fast Fountain powerboat.

On the foredeck there’s a touch-and-go helipad that can double as a massive dance floor, while bathers can enjoy one of three pools. The vast owner’s suite on the bridge deck has its own terrace with jacuzzi and sun loungers. A favourite with well-healed charterers, until recently Victorious has been renting at up to $950,000 a week.

And she can go anywhere. Twin 1,475 hp Caterpillar diesels give her a top speed of 17 knots, a cruising speed of 13 and an astonishing 14,000 nautical-mile range.

New Boston Whaler 365 Conquest headlines at Miami Boat Show 2024

The helm area has a two-person bench on one side, and a single seat for the captain, which can rotate 90 degrees to face port for socializing. Skinny hardtop and windscreen frames mean plenty of all-round visibility.

Clever design sees doors on either side of the companionway, the one on the port side opening into a huge storage area, the other allowing access to a compact head compartment. Under the hardtop is an outdoor galley with sink, fridge/freezer and lid for food prep.

The main event is the deep, roomy cockpit with its fold-down seats on the transom and portside, a hull side door, a 26-gallon livewell, and large in-floor fish boxes. Pursuit has definitely certainly crammed a lot into 31 feet.

Powering this new DC 306 is a pair of Yamaha F300s with joystick control and the option of a bow thruster. Tanks for 224 gallons of fuel should take you well offshore, and back.

In keeping with builder’s go-fast heritage, the new 457 comes with triple Mercury Verado 600 V12 – that’s a combined 1,800 horsepower if you’re counting – that should deliver a top speed well in excess of 50 knots. Formula is still working on the official numbers.

Design highlights include that elongated hardtop with an opening windshield for ventilation, plus cockpit air conditioning. Behind the helm there are two rows of bolstered sports seats, and a large cockpit for fishing. Want to catch some rays? Stroll around to the bow and there’s a comfy, forward-facing sunpad and seats around the bow for six.

Step down into the cosy cabin and there’s 6ft 6ins of headroom, a U-shaped sofa that converts into a double bed, a galley, and head with toilet and separate stall shower.

Hot on the heels of this Center Console Sport is a 457 Center Console Fish version with an upper helm station that’s due this summer.

Thankfully their angst will be short-lived as the Miami Boat Show sees the unveiling of the 345’s successor, the all-new Boston Whaler 365 Conquest. As with the bigger 405 Conquest, the mission statement revolves around building a tough-as-nails offshore cabin cruiser for some serious fishing. That means more rod holders than the Perfect Storm’s Andrea Gail, and enough live wells and storage bins around the over-sized cockpit to hold more fishies than Billingsgate Market.

Like the flagship 405, this newcomer features a full-beam, wrap-around windscreen, with optional side glass to create a cosy, out-of-the-wind pilothouse with galley, plus an optional upper helm station. Below decks, there’s a toilet/shower, plus a dining area in the bow that converts to a bed for overnight or weekend stays. Big hull windows, just like those on the 405, brighten-up the space

Peace of mind comes courtesy of the 365’s offshore capability, and the reassurance of its “unsinkable” hull. The builder, part of the massive Brunswick Corporation, still boasts that you can cut a Boston Whaler in two and drive away with the half with the engine.

Talking of engines, powering this new 365 Conquest is a trio of Mercury Verado 400 V10s, with the option of twin Verado 600 V12s. With either choice, the 365 should run at over 45 knots flat out.

When is the Miami Boat Show?

Michigan-based Tiara Yachts’ classy new Tiara EX 60 flagship was one of the showstoppers at this year’s Palm Beach and Miami Boat Shows. No question. With this gleaming hull No. 1 recently fresh out of the factory, you might have expected Tiara to wrap it in cotton wool and truck it, very carefully, the 1,424 miles from company HQ to Miami.

That would have been way too easy. Instead, Tiara decided to give its gleaming new 60-footer a proper shake-down cruise. It took it on a near 2,000-mile adventure across Lake Michigan to Chicago, down the muddy Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico, across Lake Okeechobee and down to Miami. Most of it at full throttle.

A perfect test then for Tiara’s biggest, most-luxurious, and at $3.7 million, the most expensive model to date.

The EX 60’s styling is from the drawing board of Tiara’s long-serving design director, Andrew Bartlett who seemingly focused on a classic, elegant look rather than breaking any design rules. You won’t find any funky Pardo-style plumb bows and vertical windshields here.

The real focus though is on outdoor space, with an oversize, two-level aft cockpit with adaptable seating, plus power-lowering side terraces that expand the area from 16ft 11in to an impressive 20ft 6in.

And the full aft width of the saloon is made up of a three-part glass folding door and power-operated window by the galley that opens-up the entire saloon to the back deck. Below decks you’ll find three cabins and two heads with a roomy midships owner’s cabin, big forward VIP and a twin-berth guest cabin.

Power-wise, the Tiara EX 60 comes with1350 Volvo D13s with shafts driving IPS pods which deliver a 40-knot top speed. Perfect then for the EX 60’s planned 2,000-mile post-Palm Beach Boat Show cruise back to Michigan. Though this time it’ll be up the East Coast.

One of the biggest events in the American boating calendar, the Miami Boat Show returns this week (February 15-19).

With hundreds of boats on display, there’s far too much to see in one day at this sprawling, multi-site festival of boating brilliance.

We’d always recommend staying for a couple of days, but that’s not always feasible, so we’ve distilled down the exhibitor list into what we think are the must-see boats at Miami 2023.

The 52’s next-generation design makes for a great looking boat

Absolute 52 Fly

Making its world premiere at Miami 2023, the new Absolute 52 Fly appears to adhere very closely to the dynamic blueprint laid down by the latest generation Absolute 56 and Absolute 60. Externally, it features the same oversized hull windows, cutaway bulwarks, glass aft balustrades and floor-to-ceiling main deck glazing.

It also uses the same extended aft cockpit and vertical transom to push the party zone as far back as possible, as well as three-piece sliding patio doors to open up the internal saloon.

It’s clear then that wide open decks, natural light and vast unobstructed sea views remain at the very heart of the Absolute 52’s ethos.

The Fairline F33 Outboard topped out at 45 knots on test

Fairline F//Line 33 Outboard

The muscle-boat appeal of Fairline’s entry-level model should play well at the Miami Boat Show. We tested this outboard-powered version back in 2021 and Jack Haines described that the F//Line 33 as “joyously swift” when powered by twin 350hp Mercury Verados.

“The hull has lost none of its ride comfort or tenacity in the transition from inboards to outboards, either,” he added. “There isn’t quite as much heel or grip compared to the super-slippery sterndrive legs but it’s still an absolute hoot in the turns and so composed during landings.”

Fairline has since upgraded the F//Line 33 to add an extended bathing platform that wraps around the upgraded twin 400hp Merc outboards, giving much better access to the water at anchor (not to mention an extra 100hp on tap!)

Galeon 560 Fly

Originally slated for a Düsseldorf debut last month, the glassy new Galeon 560 Fly will be making its first public appearance at Miami instead.

This all-new Tony Castro-designed boat replaces the outgoing Galeon 550 Fly and like its predecessor, it features a raft of striking new innovations.

Foremost among these are glass inserts in the folding bulwarks/side terraces that not only give guests a better view out from the cockpit and saloon when raised, but also allow you to stand or sit on the reinforced glass looking directly down at the water when lowered.

Hylas M49

Spare a thought for the folks at Hylas Yachts in Taiwan. Back in 2020, the builder was all set to ship the first of its lovely, New England Down East-style Hylas M49 cruisers to the US to show-off to potential customers. Then Covid19 roared into town, boat show plans were scrapped, and the launch was put on indefinite hold.

Now, after two long years, the original design by New Zealand boat builder and naval architect Salthouse, has been primped and preened, and the salty-looking M49 is ready for its Miami Boat Show coming-out party.

With classic, lobster boat-style lines, this rugged 49-footer will go head-to-head with offerings from established players like Hinckley, Hunt, Sabre, Grand Banks and Legacy for a slice of the lucrative Down East coupe market.

Leopard 40 Powercat

Cape Town-based Leopard Catamarans is expanding its oh-so-popular powercat line-up, currently comprising the flagship 53PC and Leopard 46PC. But instead of going large, it’s introducing a brand new 40-footer, the Leopard 40 Powercat, that’s getting its global debut at the 2023 Miami Boat Show.

Seems shrinking the cat isn’t such an easy task. Designer Alex Simonis, of Simonis Voogd Design says creating the 40PC was his studio’s “biggest challenge”. All the weight that goes into a top-heavy, family-friendly, three-cabin cruiser tends to mess with the trim, balance and general seakeeping when you make the hulls shorter.

But a 28ft 8in (6.6m) beam does help with stability, as does a whole bunch of design time spent with Computational Fluid Dynamics software. And stability is pretty key when you’re building the Leopard 40 Powercat for The Moorings’ charter fleet under the name Moorings 403PC.

Scout 67 LX

South Carolina-based Scout Boats is equipping its brand new flagship Scout 67 LX with a quintet of Mercury V12 Verados packing 600hp apiece to deliver a nice, round 3,000 horseys. No wonder Scout’s internal reference to this speed demon was “Project Everest”.

This needle-nosed center console with its mile-long foredeck, is off the computer screen of Britain’s Harrison Eidsgaard design studio, best know for its work on everything from superyachts to Boeing business jets.

With a smooth-riding, stepped-V design evolved from Scout’s 53-foot 530 LXF’s, the hull is molded from epoxy-infused carbon fiber and e-glass to create one of the stiffest forms in the business.

Sunseeker Superhawk 55

Fresh from its global debut at the 2023 Boot Düsseldorf Show in Germany, the Superhawk 55 has hotfooted across the Atlantic to make its US premiere.

Hailed by MBY editor Hugo Andreae as the most exciting Sunseeker of the decade, this super-sleek design is sure to turn heads, even among some pretty glamorous company.

The yard is proclaiming two key firsts for the Superhawk 55: this is the first Sunseeker with (non-structural) 3D printed parts and the first Sunseeker with a slanted hull (it drops by 130mm from stern to bow to help cut through waves).

Tiara EX 60

Michigan-based Tiara Yachts’ classy new Tiara EX 60 flagship will be one of the showstoppers at this year’s Miami Boat Show. No question. With this gleaming hull No. 1 recently fresh out of the factory, you might have expected Tiara to wrap it in cotton wool and truck it, very carefully, the 1,424 miles from company HQ to Miami.

That would have been way too easy. Instead, Tiara decided to give its gleaming new 60-footer a proper shake-down cruise. It took it on a near 2,000-mile adventure across Lake Michigan to Chicago, down the muddy Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico, across Lake Okeechobee and down to Miami. Most of it at full throttle.

Voltari 260 Electric

Typically, the brand new Voltari 260 electric boat is all about going fast. With its high-torque 740hp electric motor juiced by a 142kWh bank of lithium-ion Evereadys, it can slice and dice the waves at an impressive 52 knots.

But when there’s a world record to be broken, it’s worth a compromise or two. So, to claim the gong for covering the longest overseas distance in an electric “vehicle” on a single charge, the Voltari streaked along at a heady… 4.3 knots.

That meant covering the 91-miles between Key Largo, Florida, across the often-boisterous Gulf Stream, to Bimini in the Bahamas in what must have seemed an endless 20 hours. But it got the job done, and on a single charge.

With the M49, Hylas has gone for flexibility and comfort with a big-windowed, roomy saloon and rear-positioned galley that opens out on to a large, Eisenglas-windowed rear aft deck. Down below, there’s a double berth in the vee and a twin-berth cabin for guests.

As for power, a pair of analog Yanmar 370hp turbo diesels was chosen for dependability and quiet running. Flat out expect an easy 20 knots-plus top speed. With this new M49, we’re sure Hylas is hoping it’s a case of good things coming to those who wait.

Leopard has certainly squeezed a lot into this new 40PC. The flybridge is reckoned to be the biggest ever seen on a 40-footer and features an upper helm, big L-shaped dinette, compact galley, and a hardtop filled with solar panels for juicing up the house batteries.

Up on the bow there’s a multitude of sun loungers, plus convenient access to the interior through a forward door. On the rear deck, full-width sliders open into the galley and saloon, while steps lead down to dual swim platforms. It all feels much bigger and roomier than that 40-foot length suggests.

Below decks, there’s the master suite taking up the full starboard hull, with two doubles in the port hull with a shared head. As for power, take your pick of Yanmar diesels, either 250, 320 or 370-horse, with the 370s giving a feisty 20-knot-plus top speed and comfy 17-knot cruising.

Scout is keeping mum on most of the details until the Miami Boat Show global reveal. But it’s thought the first production boats won’t appear until early next year when buyers will have to write a check for an eye-watering $5 million to buy one.

What they’ll get in return is Scout’s world-renowned quality, world-class construction techniques and proven offshore capability. And a jaw-descending design that’s guaranteed to spin heads from Miami to Maine.

They’ll also get to chose between three interior layouts; from the fishing-focused 670 LXF, to the 670 LXs where the “S” stands for Sport, and the super-luxe 670 LXC. No word yet on the below-decks accommodation.

One thing’s for certain; this new Scout will be one of the stars of this year’s Miami Boat Show.

At 161ft LOA, Hunter is one of the largest superyachts built in the USA to date, but that’s not the most interesting thing about this Trinity 164 model.

In this video, filmed at the 2020 Miami Boat Show, Nick Burnham shows us around her fascinating interior, which includes a casino in the main-deck saloon.

Complete with a roulette wheel, Black Jack table and craps table, it offers the current owner’s guests a taste of the Las Vegas lifestyle on the high seas.

With its near-50m length, Hunter can pack in some seriously supersized features, such as the owner’s suite, which includes a separate lounge, office and gym, before three steps lead up to the bed itself, giving a commanding view over the bow of the yacht.

Four further guest cabins are situated below decks (three doubles and a twin), all of which are ensuite, while the crew quarters include a bridge deck captain’s cabin, plus room for up to ten further crew members across five cabins.

Nick was rather knocked sideways by this 2006 Benetti Tradition 100 superyacht, which he had the privilege to film at the 2020 Miami Boat Show.

Rutli E was offered for sale with Denison Yachting and has since been sold, but the most important thing to know about her is that her interior was designed by her original owner, the legendary Italian fashion house Versace, working in collaboration with yacht designer Francois Zuretti.

The first hint that this is no ordinary superyacht comes in the ornate cockpit ceiling, but it really hits you when you step into the classically-styled saloon with its charcoal-coloured woodwork and metallic hues.

The Versace styling continues throughout the four-cabin accommodation, which includes an owner’s cabin forward on the main deck.

In this video, filmed at the 2020 Miami Boat Show, Nick Burnham shows us around Miss Direction, a 1998 Westship 108 that is a proper party boat.

Unlike other superyachts where there’s acres of teak to keep clean, this particular model features a GRP cockpit, in keeping with the typical finish of most American boats.

Moving inside and there’s no shortage of glamour in the saloon, with elegant seating, a marble-topped bar and detailed headlinings adding a touch of class.

On a yacht this size, you might expect to find the owner’s cabin forward on the maindeck, but on the Westship 108 that’s where you’ll find the country kitchen-style galley – and it’s a really sociable place for entertaining your guests.

This crossover between a pontoon boat and a jet ski has proved to be a smash hit for Sea Doo – the first year-and-a-half’s production of the Sea Doo Switch sold out before it even launched.

Seeing it in the flesh at this year’s Miami Boat Show, it is immediately apparent why. This is a fun, simple, accessible concept that gets people afloat from as little as $17,999 (£13,700) including trailer.

The tri-toon hull is available in four different lengths (13,16,19 and 21ft) all with the same 7ft 8in beam and all using a Rotax engine and water jet drive with power outputs from 100hp to 230hp and handlebar steering.

The central hull is larger than the two outriggers, allowing the See Doo Switch to heel slightly into turns while retaining the stability of a pontoon boat.

Thanks to closed loop cooling, a shallow draught and simple reverse and brake functions, it’s easy to drive and safe in shallow waters.

Lazzara Yachts doesn’t follow the crowd – its Lazzara 92 sports a refreshingly different design, as Nick found out at the 2020 Miami Boat Show.

In this video, he takes us on board Helios, a 2012 Lazzara 92 with plenty of surprises up its proverbial sleeve.

The first of which is found just forward of the main helm, where a double-height atrium effect is created around the galley and adjacent seating area.

Accommodation is split between a VIP double in the bow, two further double cabins and a spectacular amidships owner’s cabin, which boasts its own hot tub and fold-out balcony.

What’s more there is frosted glass throughout the Lazarra 92, which can turn transparent at the touch of a button, giving you the option between more privacy and more light.

Rather than just building something with the most amount of rooms, the ethos of the 164ft Oceanfast superyacht Thunder was to build something that makes you go ‘Wow!’ when you walk on board, and then does it again when the captain hits the throttles!

Built in 1998 to a design by the late, great Jon Bannenberg, the brief was to create a 50m superyacht with six cabins that could go from Saint Tropez to Portofino in a day.

To that end, she was fitted with a pair of 2,960hp MTU V16 engines, paired to Kamewa water jets and gas turbines, giving a top speed of 34 knots.

Perhaps predictably, that incredible performance comes at a cost in terms of fuel consumption – a whopping 2,750lph!

As if that wasn’t impressive enough, the interior of Thunder is even more remarkable. Refitted in 2016 to a design by the fashion guru Roberto Cavalli, the decor screams opulence, making the most of the 10ft headroom afforded to guests relaxing in the saloon.

Other stunning features include the day heads wash basin, which is a work of art in itself, comprised of a geometric skull that Cavalli calls ‘Brainwashing’.

There’s a lot to admire inside the Hargrave 100, an all-American superyacht that packs in a lot of features, even for its admittedly palatial dimensions.

In this video, filmed at the 2020 Miami Boat Show, Nick Burnham takes us inside MB3, a 2018 Hargrave 100, which was offered for sale with Denison Yachting and has since been sold.

Starting at the stern, we quickly move into the saloon, which takes advantage of the full 21ft beam as there are no sidedecks amidships.

Moving further forward you find a huge open country-kitchen style galley, which offers direct access to the foredeck, particularly useful when mooring up, given the lack of sidedecks.

All the accommodation is situated below decks, including a full-beam owner’s cabin, a double and a twin guest cabin, plus a separate-access VIP suite in the bow.

This luxurious new electric boat won the innovation award at the recent Miami Boat Show and it’s hard to argue with the judges’ decision.

At first glance the Ingenity 23E looks like a pontoon boat, however the hull is a tunnelled monohull giving it a cruising speed of 17 knots and a maximum of 26 knots.

Throttle down to displacement speed and you’ll get up to 14 hours of continuous use from the largest 164kWh battery option.

It shares its motor with the Nautique GS22E wake boat, meaning there’s more than enough torque for water sports, but here they have fitted it to a regular Mercury Bravo 4 sterndrive leg for easy, predictable handling.

In this video, filmed at the 2020 Miami Boat Show, Nick Burnham takes us on an access-all-areas tour of Illusion, a 2004 Johnson 87 yacht.

Her age may come as some surprise, given her immaculate condition, but this speaks to both the quality of the original build (Johnson is a custom yard based in Taiwan) and the care that has been lavished on her over the years, with refits in 2010 and 2019.

The amount of space you get onboard is equally impressive – as Nick explains, it’s not that often you see an owner’s cabin this big on a sub-90ft superyacht, let alone one with a mezzanine-level ensuite with its own coffee machine and wine cooler.

Other star features include a dedicated indoor dining area with room for up to 8 guests and a convertible skylounge.

Boston Whaler’s legendary reputation has taken another leap forward with this new Boston Whaler 360 Outrage. It is packed with the latest tech and looks superb in the flesh, especially with a pair of Mercury’s new 600hp V12 outboards hung off the back (triple 450hp V8s are also an option) for a top speed of over 50 knots.

Rather less obvious but equally interesting is Boston Whaler’s new Fathom lithium-ion battery system that allows all the electrical systems, including the air-conditioning, to run without the need for a separate generator.

This no-compromise approach to engineering also applies to the 360 Outrage’s design. Although a dual purpose weekender/sportsfisher, it is formidably well equipped for big game fishing, and beautifully built and fitted out.

The backrests of the aft-facing seats fold down to reveal a teak work top/bait preparation area, the aft bench tucks away to give access to a live bait-well in the transom, a cockpit side door makes it easier to haul in your catch (or for diving access) and there are multiple fish lockers under the deck.

You can also specify a tuna tower with a second raised helm position. Even without this option, the helm console is crowned by a substantial hard top supported by a sturdy aluminium frame that means there’s always something to hang onto.

Two flush-mounted 19in Simrad MFDs dominate the helm and use proprietary software to control and monitor all the ship’s systems, as well as state-of-the-art navigation, radar, sonar and a thumping JL audio system with zoned RGB lighting.

A bank of backlit analogue switches and glossy solid teak trim adds to the wow factor. In typical Boston Whaler fashion, the driving position is superb with three comfortable and very supportive helm seats and an ideal relationship between the throttles and the trademark stainless steel wheel.

Visibility is excellent, too, with a drop-down step to rest your feet on when seated or for an elevated standing view. The forward cockpit is equally impressive with
a good spread of seating and a large forward-facing sunpad that lifts to reveal another huge storage locker for the slot-in teak table, infill cushions and multiple covers.

A door in the side of the console opens to reveal a decent-sized overnight cabin. Cleverly, the foot of the double bed flips up to close off the sleeping area during the day, leaving the rest of the space as a self-contained day heads.

We haven’t yet had a chance to test it but given the flared bow, deep-vee hull and Boston Whaler’s reputation, we’d be surprised if it were anything other than a very capable sea boat.

After taking some time away from the sportscruiser sector, Sea Ray has exploded back onto the scene with the Sea Ray Sundancer 370 Outboard. A fresh new crossover with 50-knot performance, it’s more space shuttle than family sportscruiser.

By swapping the usual inboard sterndrives for outboard power (either triple 300hp or twin 600hp Mercury Verados), Sea Ray has not only boosted performance but also liberated space inside. The roomy cockpit features a U-shaped dinette big enough for eight people, a wet bar, grille and a 32in TV.

The tall windscreen and side windows of the hard top may look a touch gawky from the outside but once you’re onboard they work a treat, combining the uninterrupted views and feeling of an open boat with the protection of an enclosed one.

In conjunction with twin flush-mounted 12in MFDs, clear but stylish instrumentation and a near-perfect relationship between the seat, wheel and throttles, it adds up
to one of the best helm stations we have seen on a boat of this size.

A large door integrated into the port side of the windscreen leads forward to a deep open bow cockpit. Thanks to the high freeboard and tall side coamings, the triple sunloungers in front of the windscreen feel safe to use underway while a second small dinette further forward is the perfect spot for drinks at anchor.

The versatile area below decks is all open plan with two seating areas fore and aft that convert to double beds as well as a galley and separate shower/heads compartment.

The big petrol outboards may be off-putting for some buyers but if you can live with the fuel consumption the 370 is a compelling weekender, sportscruiser and performance boat.

Hatteras Yachts of New Bern, NC are best known for their sportfish yachts that can take on the biggest of big game fish and come out on top every time.

However, with more than 60 years of experience behind them, that’s by no means the only style of yacht they’ve built.

One of the most notable examples from recent years is the Hatteras M90 Panacera, a pocket superyacht that limbos under the 24m load line length limit, so it could be operated by an owner without a professional crew.

Only a handful of years ago if a budding boat designer had suggested committing company capital to a 42ft flybridge cruiser with three 425hp 5.6-litre V8 outboards on the back they would have been laughed out of the design office and asked politely to keep on walking.

In the current climate, however, where outboards are king, this proposition doesn’t seem quite so silly. How many flybridges are there on the market that you can beach?

And how many can you name that are able to crack 40 knots? So maybe Regal is onto something with the 42 FXO.

At heart it’s a handsome, well designed 42ft flybridge with a decent pair of cabins, a deep practical cockpit and a comfortable top deck, albeit one that’s on the small side.

Triple petrol V8 outboards aren’t what you’d call the typical powertrain for a boat of this style but ignore the damage done at the fuel berth for a minute and think about the upsides.

The engines are simple to maintain and easy to get to. The space on board where ordinarily there would be a pair of diesel engines is now a huge dry storage void, large enough to swallow mountains of cruising gear.

And when other flybridges are preoccupied with anchoring in enough depth to protect their stern gear, the Regal 42 FXO can head into the shallows and even stick its bow on the beach.

It’s not a cheap boat but then Regal is usually quite generous with its standard spec and it’s safe to say that you will have exclusivity on your side.

The design formula has pretty much always stayed the same. Soaring, wave-crushing bow, blacked-out, Mask-of-Zorro wrap-around windows, uncluttered decks, and a mile-high fish-spotting tower.

But this new Viking 64 Convertible takes the concept to the next level. Using some serious new in-house Computational Fluid Dynamic software to refine the hull’s running surfaces, the big Viking is said to go through feisty waters faster and smoother. Not that speed is too big a concern when you have a pair of 2,000-horsepower, V12 MTU M96Xs turning the props.

While Viking hulls have always had the strength and rigidity of a Wells Fargo bank vault, the new 64 Convertible is the arguably the stiffest yet. The hull and deck are now joined with through-bolts every three inches and glassed-over from the inside for a stronger union than Barack and Michelle.

With the 64, Viking has also upped the luxury quota, realising hardy fishing folk want the comforts of home when the rods are stowed.

That means the option of an enclosed, air conditioned flybridge, air conditioning in the mezzanine “observation” cockpit, Seakeeper stabilising, and a quartet of spacious, high-luxe staterooms and a trio of heads.

Miami and boats go hand in hand, so for those who haven’t been before it should come as no surprise that the city boasts one of the world’s finest boat shows – the Discovering Boating Miami International Boat Show.

The 2022 version of the Miami Boat Show starts this week (February 16-20) and the world’s biggest boat builders will be converging on the city.

There are four on-water locations (Sea Isle Marina, One Herald Plaza, Museum Park Marina, and IGY Yacht Haven Grande) as well as the Miami Beach Convention Center and Pride Park, so it makes sense to plan ahead to figure out which sites to visit first.

So without further ado, here’s our selection of the very best boats to seek out at the 2022 Miami Boat Show:

Azimut 68 Fly

When it comes to Azimut Flybridge models, there are seemingly more choices than stinky cheeses at the supermarket deli.

Looking for something in the 50-foot range? Take your pick from the Azimut 50, 53 or 55. For 60-footers, look no further than the Azimut 60 or 66. Want to go bigger? There’s an Azimut 72, 78 and 83. Seemingly only rabbits breed faster.

Now filling the sliver of a gap between the 66 and 72 comes the new, and quite gorgeous $3 million Azimut 68 Fly that’s all set to woo the Miami Boat Show crowd.

Cranchi E26 Classic

Another Italian yard hoping to make a splash at the Miami Boat Show is Cranchi Yachts, with their A46 Luxury Tender and two versions of their entry-level E26 going on display.

We drove the Cranchi E26 back in 2020 and were bowled over by its beautiful, retro styling and impeccable handling. Chief boat tester Jack Haines went as far as to call it a “modern classic in the making”.

“There isn’t a line out of place on the Classic model, it is simply gorgeous up close,” he adds. “And the helm makes you want to drive the boat from the moment you drop into the bucket seat.”

Leopard 46PC

Love ’em or hate ’em, power cats are here to stay. When tennis ace Rafa Nadal swapped his sleek ‘n sexy Monte Carlo 76 for a 39-foot-wide Sunreef 80 Power Catamaran, we knew hell had frosted over.

Make no mistake, one of the biggest headliners at this year’s Miami Boat Show won’t be some swanky superyacht, or a Miami Vice speed demon; it’ll be the brand new 46PC from power cat brand Leopard.

How come? It’s all about numbers. You see the Leopard 46PC is built in South Africa by leading power cat specialist, Robertson & Caine.

They build the bulk of the cats for the Moorings global charter fleet and will soon start cranking-out a version of the Leopard 46 badged the Moorings 464 PC. That’ll account for a lot of boats.

Pardo Endurance 60

A relatively new brand, Pardo Yachts has blossomed since its 2018 debut into a yard capable of producing a truly groundbreaking crossover yacht like the Endurance 60.

The aim here is to deliver year-round cruising comfort in effortless Italian style, and we recently got the chance to test this model at the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival.

“The interior is beautifully crafted and with three cabins, three bathrooms and a double crew cabin arranged on the lower deck there is room for extended cruises with family and friends,” reports Jack Haines.

Regal 38 Fly

Doctor Who’s Tardis couldn’t squeeze-in more space than Regal Boats‘ latest flybridge model, the Regal 38 Fly, which is making its global debut at the 2022 Miami Boat Show.

This thing boasts a midships stateroom with a walk-around king-size bed along with a cosy two-seat sofa. Up in the bow there’s a queen with easy access on both sides, and under-bed storage voluminous enough to double as a third cabin.

And one more cool, below-decks feature; a stand-alone shower on the port side, and a toilet and sink to starboard. The thinking here? It lets two people get ready at the same time.

Sunseeker 88 Yacht

The Sunseeker 88 is based on the yard’s popular 86 model, but with some key upgrades to make it stand out in a crowded marketplace.

Foremost among these is the eye-catching transforming transom, which can create a beach club, sunpads or even a cockpit balcony at the touch of a button.

MBY editor Hugo Andreae got a chance to tour a brand new Sunseeker 88 Yacht last year, fresh out of the factory, and it really has to be seen to be believed.

True North 34 Outboard Express

It’s taken Catalina Yachts almost three years to incorporate its design thinking and sailboat production techniques into the True North lobster-boat brand it acquired back in 2019.

Debuting on the 2022 Miami Boat Show docks is the newest, freshest, best-built version of True North’s trusty 34 Outboard Express, currently the only model it produces at Catalina’s old sailboat production plant in Largo, on Florida’s west coast.

It’s all evolution rather than revolution. There are new, bigger side windows for better all-round vision from the helm and inside L-shaped sofa.

Vanquish VQ52

If ever a boat was designed for the sun-and-sin Miami lifestyle, it’s surely the brand new 52-foot VQ52 from Dutch builder Vanquish Yachts. You can almost hear Jan Hammer’s Miami Vice theme tune pulsating from the VQ’s stereo.

Filling the small, but significant, gap between Vanquish’s VQ45 and VQ58 open dayboats, this all-aluminum rocketship, making its US debut at the 2022 Miami Boat Show, boasts one significant selling point: it offers sunpads, beds and chill zones for a bikini’d crowd of up to 18.

That, and party-style catering that includes twin sinks, a grill, ice maker, and industrial-grade margarita blender to keep the party going all the way to the Bahamas.

Wallytender 48

Wally Yachts founder Luca Bassani wrote the book on modern Italian boat styling and the Wallytender 48 is a great example of this.

With the backing of the Ferretti Group, Wally’s offering has become even more appealing in recent years, with exemplary build quality now underpinning those gorgeous looks.

Hugo Andreae took a test drive of one of the first Wallytender 48s in 2019 and reports that its engineering is every bit as impressive as its cutting-edge exterior design.
